Kai Chen Cheng is an accomplished soloist, chamber musician, and educator based in the New York area.

She has served as a faculty member at Taiwan National Taitung University and has coached numerous chamber ensembles at Stony Brook University, where she is also the Outreach Artist at the Staller Center for the Arts. She previously held the role of Music Director for the 17th LISMA International Music Competition. In addition, she has adjudicated prestigious events, including the 17th LISMA International Music Competition and 2024 Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention Collegiate Soloist Competition.

A finalist in the 2023 American Prize, Ms. Cheng has garnered recognition in numerous competitions, including the North International Competition and the National Taiwan Music Competition. Her performances have spanned Asia, North America, and Canada, with notable appearances at the United Nations, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Taiwan National Concert Hall, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts, and the China National Centre for the Performing Arts. She has been a fellow at the Round Top Festival Institute and has performed at the renowned Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and the Lake George Music Festival.

In 2023, Ms. Cheng co-founded Project 23.6°N, a piano trio dedicated to promoting classical Taiwanese music and culture. As a versatile musician, she has performed with the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, Counterpoint Chamber Orchestra, and the New York Wind Orchestra

Ms. Cheng holds a Bachelor’s degree from Taipei National University of the Arts and a Master of Music and Performer Diploma from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. She recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts at Stony Brook University under the mentorship of Carol Wincenc. 

Currently, she is on the flute faculty at Long Island Conservatory, Musik Colab, and SHEMA Youth Orchestra.
